ANAS FAROUQ TAYSEER MAHAFZAH
This study is based on the linguistic hypothesis that semantic multiplicity in the Arabic lexicon is not a chaotic distribution but rather a structured framework rooted in a central semantic core. It aims to explore this philosophy in Ibn Faris’s Maqayis al-Lughah, as he was a pioneer in the methodology of tracing derivatives back to their primary roots. The research adopts "Bab al-Ayn" as its applied scope, analyzing selected linguistic roots: ('akka, 'anna, 'alla, 'azafa, 'ajaba), and contrasting them with Al-Ayn and Lisan al-Arab lexicons. Utilizing a comparative descriptive-analytical approach, the study examines Ibn Faris’s explanatory efficiency. He distinguished himself by identifying the common thread that binds a root's various meanings, transforming them into a coherent logical structure. The findings conclude that Ibn Faris’s method represents a paradigm shift in lexicographical thought, offering a holistic vision that transcends mere linguistic compilation toward structural interpretation.
