This study aimed to identify proposed foundations for teaching Arabic as a second language for academic purposes and to establish criteria for designing instructional units based on the "Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)" approach. The study also sought to develop and design a model instructional unit for teaching Arabic for academic purposes in the field of political science, following the CLIL approach.
The study resulted in a set of proposed foundations for designing instructional units to teach Arabic for academic purposes to beginner learners who intend to pursue academic studies in Arabic at universities and academic institutes. Furthermore, a sample unit comprising three lessons was developed.
The study recommended integrating the teaching of Arabic as a second language for academic purposes with scientific and cultural knowledge, following the integrative CLIL approach. It also encouraged teachers to adopt the CLIL approach in the design and implementation of their lessons.
