The Arabic language is one of the components of the national identity in Algeria. The state constitution stipulated that it is a national and official language. The French colonizers had plans to eliminate the Arabic language, but the Algerian state rushed to the Arabization project to solve the language problem, and thirty years ago a law was issued generalizing the use of the language. However, this project was exposed to problems and difficulties that hindered its path and prevented it from achieving its goals.
This study addresses these difficulties, which can be summarized as follows:
1- Lack of pride in the national language.
2- Not emphasizing the use of Arabic as a symbol of national sovereignty in official institutions, media, culture, and public administration.
3- Lack of Arabization of sensitive sectors in the country.
4- Due to the imposed bilingualism between the Arabic language and foreign languages.
5-There is opposition to the use of the Arabic language in some sectors.
6- French influence in administration, media, and the general environment.
7- The dominance of the colloquial dialect, which is saturated with linguistic borrowing.
